  • 50k+ employee organization which has invested million of dollars over the years on implementing BSM solution?
  • Public sector organization which uses open source application for implementing BSM for IT-Business alignment/integration?
  • Medical company with domain experts, medical specialists, technologists and compliance specialists?
  • Small business with 500 employees with 10-25 million annual revenue trying to build a custom application for implementing BSM for tracking revenue pit-holes and growth opportunities?

Having worked with different organizations with varying budget levels, organizational challenges, regulatory compliance requirements, business strategies, capabilities and resources for BSM/SQM – I have learned to appreciate the personalization (variability analysis) and generalization(commonality analysis) in BSM solutions.  Fred Brooks has truly said that there is “No silver bullet” when building solutions. Even so, I urge the community to think about a companies which are trying to implement BSM solution and want to know more about it, looking for answers to following questions from YOU:

  • How do I know what is the correct approach for BSM?
  • How do I know what is the road map to BSM strategy?
  • Which products do I look at based on my budget for BSM implementation?  Is there are product catalogue that I can use? Should I build or buy a solution? How do I ensure personalization to my business strategies, capabilities, and resources?
  • How do I find information about BSM principles, standards and guidelines to ensure a governance process?

These are the questions that I have encountered and want to share so that we can aim at reaching a better level of maturity for a BSM solution. I think that the BSM community does not have an answer for these questions yet. With lack of any open standards whatsoever;  would be interesting to know what others think about this challenge. Views?
