Seeking Integration Experiences with HP OMi v8.x, HP Service Center v7.x and CA Spectrum v8.x

in CA, HP, IBM, Netcool/OMNIbus, Tivoli

I’m seeking information on integration experiences, strategies, gotchas, etc. associated with the newer products from HP and CA. Specifically, I’m interested in event integration between Netcool/OMNIbus and HP’s Operations Manager (OM) v8.x as well as between CA/Aprisma Spectrum v8.x. I’m also looking for experiences with HP’s Service Center/Service Manager v7.x helpdesk/ticketing solution and Netcool/OMNIbus.

These could be official or unofficial integration approaches, alternatives, configurations, APIs, etc. There’s a bit of a lag in some formal support by specific version number here. What I have may work, but wanted to see what others may know. Constantly changing product names doesn’t help here either!

Much appreciated!

I have worked on following interfaces:

    — CA Introscope/eHealth to Netcool Omnibus – Is straight forward SNMP forwarding to MTTRAPD

    — HPOVO to Omnibus — OVO probe

    — Cisco ANA to Netcool – is another interesting integration offered via nckl (SNMP)

    — Telecordia NMA to Netcool — Complicated!!

    — Nagios to Omnibus — Socket interface custom build decoupled via log trailor functionality in Groovy/java.

    Hope its helpful!!

  • Thanks Robin, looking for the latest HP products (OMi, ServiceCenter/Mangager) and CA Spectrum 8.1. I’m sure SNMP Traps is always an option, but client was asking about specific probes/gateways. We have some, but lag in latest version support in many cases. It’s times like this I wish HP and CA followed IBM and opened up all their websites to allow anyone to see documents, user groups, etc.

Doug, OMi is not even released yet, so it will be difficult to find much information. However, as OMi uses an underlying OM Windows or OM Unix Server as it’s main datafeed, any event integration into these will work with OMi, too

    Doug,
IBM has released a new Corba based integration for Spectrum 8.1. The Probe for CA Spectrum (CORBA) collects alarm information from the SpectroSERVER and sends them to Netcool/OMNIbus.

The earlier probe was withdrawn for a while and now the integration is officially in place.

It was released in December 2008

  • Yes, I am aware of that. Trying to find someone with any experience with it!

  • In response to “pokeshot”.

    HP released OMi last November.

    Hi Doug,
regarding the Spectrum Corba Probe, I’d very much like to test it and then deploy it at a customer. (And I’m happy to provide feedback afterwards.) However, apart from the docs, I cannot find any evidence of the Probe on the IBM Web Site. I’m opening a PMR – but perhaps you have heard more about it ?
    regards,
    Michael

  • It certainly exists. I ended up being unable to use it due to client upgrade to CA/Spectrum v9.x. The probe is only supported on HP-UX and Solaris and client is needed Windows.
