I’ve finally got some traction with GenerationE, coordinated schedules and cornered a “guinea pig” to participate (some appear to be a bit shy š ) in the first of many discussions with one of Tivoli’s leading business partners in the area of Business Service Management.
The purpose of this series and today’s initial interview style podcast is to dive into the business of business service management from the world’s only AAA accredited business partner in TBSM. Today, I spoke with a TBSM SME in Ireland named Tom Cahill. Tom’s developing the EMEA region for GenerationE and from what Tom says it will be a big growth area in 2009. Tom has been an active member of the TBSM community deploying BSM solutions across Europe with other Tivoli business partners. Tom and I discussed GenerationE’s approach to BSM, how they work with clients to ensure successful BSM solutions are deployed and how the worldwide market is developing. Tom leaves us with his three key points to BSM success.
In follow on open or topical discussion podcasts, we’ll invite other GenerationE practioner’s to further discuss BSM from their perspective, understand their process from end-to-end, talk about successful projects they’ve had as well as the ones filled with challenges they had to overcome. Maybe I can even get some GenerationE clients to join in – I know they have some very very successful and happy clients.
I’ve personally known many of the GenerationE team going back to my pre-MUSE/IBM days. I’ve had them work on my TBSM projects and I’ll have them back again on future projects. I’m not here to officially endorse them, their business or practices, but instead to have open discussions about all things BSM. I’m open to having similar discussions with any of our Tivoli business partners should they desire to do so. (That’s my open invitation…)
My standard disclaimer applies. The things I discuss in the podcast series and the content of this site reflect my personal thoughts, observations, and opinions. They do not necessarily represent the positions of any other person or entity, including especially those of my employer, IBM.

I have stumbled across a neat little tool called WorkBench. It appears to have a great way to discover all of your networked assets and catolog them so you can create logical groups and prepare for importing them into any BSM or CMDB solution. It is from a company called FireScope. I haven’t researched their BSM or CMDB tools yet. Any thoughts?
