BSM “Cool Post of the Day”

in Blog, Business Service Management, E2E Service Management, Firescope, Value

I don’t know what’s cooler, that the President of FireScope went to the Van Halen concert or that he compared Business Service Management (BSM) to Van Halen’s innovative approach to going on the road with Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang.

What can I draw from this? I think that the next generation of BSM will require out-of-the box thinking and new innovative ways to address the challenges of IT and business alignment. The next generation of BSM will take a different approach. It will find a new way of doing the things that the incumbents continue to do. It will find the diamonds in the rough like making BSM easier to implement and maintain, quicker time to value and powerful visualizations that get the point across in less than 10 seconds.

BSM compared to Van Halen and the President of an emerging BSM company who made the analogy…priceless!

  • As a guitarist myself and a lifetime Eddie Van Halen fanatic who was heavily influenced by his playing in the late 70s and early 80s, I find this pretty cool myself…

The only thing I’d change is that if I were to make a comparison to BSM it would be to Eddie’s innovative techniques and approach to the guitar rather than to his going on the road with his son.

When Eddie was introduced to the guitar playing world at large, there was nothing like him. Techniques he pioneered such as fretboard tapping, tapped harmonic melodies, etc. were completely unheard of at the time and completely changed how future generations of guitarists approached the instrument. Most of us guitar players, who thought we were pretty good players, were shocked and in awe of how he had innovated.

The same thing is happening in BSM now, with a crop of new vendors, who as you say, are using out-of-the-box thinking and new innovative techniques to shake up mainstream BSM. These new solutions will do for IT Operations what Eddie did for the generation of guitarists who discovered him and beyond.

I hope Mark had a great time at the show!

  • Cool! Great comments. Are you going to start blogging “officially” for Integrien? Happy to have you guest author via my blog!

Maybe you can show me how to get off of “easy” mode on GHIII on my Wii! I really can’t get my fingers down to the blue and orange keys. This appears to be the extent of my guitar skills these days trying to keep up with the kids!

  • Doug,

Certainly I’ll be blogging on an official Integrien blog in the future, however, I’d love to take you up on guest authoring via your blog in the meantime.

On another note, while I can’t help you with GHIII, I’d be happy to tab out some Classic Van Halen for you… I can play a real guitar far better than GHIII…
