Looks like we’ve posted a really great reference document on OPAL today about our integrations best practices with IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus. This is really geared towards third parties and business partners who want to build custom integrations, but there are some very useful references for building core probe rules and right click tools. Keep this document in the back of your mind as you work in those areas.

IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Integration Best Practices provides the base information on building the necessary rules and integration files to represent a solution. A probe is needed to integrate with Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus so the event information issued from a Business Partners solution or device can be properly displayed. This document will guide one through the baseline requirements for a probe and complements what is needed to have a solution validated as “Ready for IBM Tivoli”.

Netcool/OMNIbus is at the core of the Tivoli Netcool suite of software, a carrier-class service and business assurance system. The Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus application focuses primarily on fault and event management. It collects and consolidates events and alarms from a wide variety of networking environments in real-time. These environments include servers, mainframes, Windows systems, UNIX applications, circuit switches, voice switches, IP routers, SNMP devices, network management applications and frameworks, among many others. Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus can also consolidate information from different domain-limited network management platforms in remote locations.
