I attended the Atlanta Tivoli User Group meeting last week and John Willis of Capital Software spoke on ITM 6.1 Best Practices. This guy is one of “the gurus” of all things Tivoli Monitoring. I picked up quite a bit of useful information from what the ITM 6.1 product can do and how we can pick real time status and metrics information from the TEMS components for use in real-time Netcool/RAD 3.0 (TBSM 4.1) based solutions.
The former Netcool/SSM, ASM, USM products are now part of the ITM family and their architecture and operational practices are being incorporated into the next generation of ITM products. From what I’ve seen, these products will be pretty slick and make both sides of the systems monitoring agent camps happy.
John also publishes a newsletter for Capital Software about all things Tivoli and systems/network management here.

Doug, first off nice little BSM site ya got going here. Would like to talk about the things you picked up as far as KPIs we can get from ITM(TEMs). So far I havent seen any customers doing advanced siutations for pulling much more than CPU/MEM etc.
Thanks John. I think the keys here are the use and application of our products in their “systems and network management” context and how they can be used in the “business service management” context.
Ultimately, the practioners in each area may be the same – but their point of reference, motivation and linkage to the business are a bit different and need development.
I’d love to hear about how things are progressing across the pond!

My goodness – “Uber”, I had to look that one up. Impressive site I will add it to my daily activities and hope to be an active participant. I don’t have a blog but I do manage the capitalsoftware.com/Forum. We mostly concentrate on ITM 6.x event management and correlation.
Thanks
John Willis

I hope you’re enjoying the Atlanta area now. Feel free to ping me anytime and we can get together and talk shop!
