Just released here.
All tied up into the BSM, CMDB and IT process messaging.
Question – Does BMC have a pure-play BSM solution or are they about the sum of all the parts?

BMC does not have anything close to a \”pure play\” business service management solution, particularly one that aligns with the definitions found elsewhere on this site. BMC has taken the BSM term and subverted it for their own use, branding virtually every products with BSM and even claiming to have introduced the concept of BSM three years ago:
\”We introduced the concept of Business Service Management three years ago, and since then many leading IT organizations have embraced BSM…\”,said Bob Beauchamp, president and CEO, BMC Software
(http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060830/daw013.html?.v=68)
The truth is that BSM was defined many years before BMC ever picked up the term–several analyst firms began using it in the early 2000s.
So, the answer to the question is clearly \”no\” — BMC has hi-jacked the BSM term and is using it to describe their set of solutions that, if they can convince a company to actually bite, will require a multi-million dollar investment in many discrete BMC products in order to even come close to what a pure-play BSM solution can deliver.
Thanks for commenting Johan. Those were my thoughts as well. I see this happening with many other vendors as well.
ITSM != BSM
ITIL != BSM
Remedy != BSM
CMDB != BSM
etc.
Is BSM a valid concept? Is it lost in the sea of acronyms along with BPM, BAM, B-I-N-G-O?
I’ve been thinking and writing (not on blog yet) about what the future of all these may look like. A maturity model is definately needed for BSM. I like the idea of “mashups” and have been looking for a fit in the enterprise/service provider spaceaa a “mashup” of BSM, BAM and BPM (process & performance management) could be a great “all-in-one, get-it-done” solution.
Look forward to hearing more about your experiences and thoughts!
