Hehe, I guessed right. I saw some interesting searches landing on my page last week about rumors like this..
“NEW YORK, July 25 (Reuters) – Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Tuesday it agreed to buy Mercury Interactive Corp. (MERQ.PK: Quote, Profile, Research) for $52 per share, or an enterprise value of $4.5 billion, in a bid to expand its business software operations.
The deal will help the second largest personal computer maker Hewlett-Packard bolster its OpenView systems management software business, which makes it easier for far-flung businesses to monitor the hardware, software and networks across an organization.
The move also puts it in closer competition with other major systems management software providers, including IBM’s (IBM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) Tivoli unit, CA Inc.’s (CA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) UniCenter and BMC Software (BMC.N: Quote, Profile, Research). The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2006.
