IBM Acquires MRO Software - Maximo Solutions

Wow! This looks really interesting and brings a wealth of potential for our ITSM portfolio. I see all kinds of gaps being addressed in our portfolio with this - Service Desk, Service Catalog, enhanced Discovery, enahnced Asset Management, enhanced SLA & SLA monitoring, etc.

Yes, re-read that - Service Desk & Service Catalogs! I look forward to seeing what develops here!

Some links to info - more to come I’m sure.

Not me yet, but hope to soon. They’ve been around for a long time and have a big list of clients:

Hi All,

Their ITSM offering is new and they don’t appear to have any customers using it according to Gartner. They have a lot to prove in that space to compete with BMC Remdedy, Axios assyst or HP Peregrine.

Thanks,

Markos

Thanks for commenting Markos! I have never come across their service desk product either. At least IBM Tivoli has one to build upon! Do you have any experience with any of their other products?

Tks,

Doug

I have been implementing Maximo for over 10 years (I do not work from MRO) and I believe that it is one of the best designed products available. It has a great architecture and is easy to extend, customise and use.

Most of the people that have seen MRO’s ITSM solution believe that it is way ahead of its rivals. A key selling point is its work management and procurement functionality. The main selling point is increasing the IT Department’s productivity - something that Maximo has been doing for 10+ years in traditional Asset Management.

Thats true. Remember that Remedy, Peregrine & Axios have been around for 15 Years Plus doing ITSM.

All 3 do procurement and work management as well.

Does anybody know if Maximo ITSM is a dev tool like their Asset Management tool or is it an Out-of-the-box app like the Axios assyst product.

My experience is that Dev tools are a risky business with no guarentee of success and nightmares to upgrade!

Does anybody know what the maximo product is?

Thanks

Markos
