Charlie pointed this out on the erp4it list today…a big YIKES!

“As we’ve informed you before, the exploitation of ITIL (and other OGC frameworks like Prince2) will be outsourced to new parties by the end of the year, and the involved parties seem to be involved in a poker game. OGC now announced that they have selected two parties to negotiate further on ITIL rights. The biggest news is that ITSMF is not amongst these parties.”

“It seems that there are a few dark clouds hanging over ITIL’s future. The January statement “that there will be one and only one acceptable outcome of the CAR bidding: the future management of ITIL will have to be an organization lead by the international ITSMF organization – not an organization where ITSMF is participating as an advisor, but one where ITSMF makes the decisions…” might prove to be false now, and there’s no saying where this will end.”

Hi Doug,
I’ve posted my thoughts at http://en.itsmportal.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB_14&file=index&action=viewtopic&topic=352&2&outputmode=printpage but in summary. I think that this may not be the big deal that is being made of it. The rights that OGC CAR are retendering appear to be publication rights and certification rights. Provided appropriate safeguards are maintained and the neutral editorial process currently being followed for v3 is preserved I think that the risks are minimal at least for now.
Thanks for commenting Mark. I hope it’s limited to that as well. I also hope it doesn’t mess up my plans to work towards my ITIL Service Manager certification! 🙂

Sharon is claiming that existing certifications will continue to be valid with ITIL v3, and that the exam content will be ‘phased’ over with nothing under ITIL v3 specifically expected to be in exams until towards the end of 2007… I guess it’s a question of getting them under your belt before they change… Good luck and my advice – for what it’s worth – get several different sizes of pens and practice writing for several hours at a time, I found that the muscles required were quite different from the keyboard!
Tell me about it! My hand hurt after both my practitioner essay tests for some time!
I actually heard from a co-worker in India who recently passed his Service Manager certification that they let him type it out on a computer and they actually emailed it to the reviewers.
I can’t imagine writing for that long – an in ink!
